From rainbow bagels to burgers, the UK has an obsession with all things multicoloured.
Now the British coffee chain Costa is bringing rainbow coffee into the mix.
Costa will serve rainbow flat whites in selected cafes across the UK on dates between June and August to show its support for Pride and the LGBT+ community, according to a press release.
The company enlisted barrista Mason Salisbury, who first made rainbow coffee famous at the Las Vegas cafe Sambalatte, to teach its barristas to make the colourful beverage.
Here's how Salisbury does it:
To make rainbow coffee, streaks of food colouring are added to a jug of milk that's poured over coffee, a spokesperson for Costa told Business Insider over email. While pouring the milk into the cup, the jug is gently shaked in a sideways motion — using "free pour coffee art"— to leave a colourful florette pattern on top.
The rainbow flat white, which will cost £2.50, will be available at certain Costa cafes in four UK cities: London (on June 25), Bristol (July 9), Brighton (August 6), and Manchester (August 27).
In London, where the beverage will make its debut, Costa will serve the rainbow coffee in five cafes: 4 Great Portland Street, 11 Argyll Street, 200 Piccadilly, 15 Regent Street, and Waterstones Trafalgar Square.
Although Costa hasn't announced the cafes in other cities where the coffee will be served yet, you can follow updates on the company's Facebook page.
