Most coffee drinkers are familiar with traditional drip brewing; this is where water is poured over roasted beans or grounds to make a cup of coffee.
Pod brewers and French presses are other common methods for making coffees and espressos.
A lesser known, but increasingly popular method, called air-pressure brewing, is also worth a try, if you consider yourself a connoisseur of coffee.
Coined by the makers of the AeroPress, air-pressure brewing steeps grounds in water for 10 to 50 seconds (depending on grind and preferred strength) and then forces the steeped concoction through a filter by pressing a plunger through a tube (see right).
The air-pressure brewing technique is said to impart coffees and espressos with richer, deeper flavors than standard drip brewing.
Here's why: Every bean is fully immersed in water that maintains a consistent temperature from start to finish. The same isn't true of drip- or pod-brewing methods.
All in all, the $30 setup is a lot cheaper than other fancy kitchen electronics. So, if you're looking to experiment, you're not parting with much money.
